"Fiction has enabled us not merely to imagine things, but to do so collectively. We can weave common myths such as the biblical creation story, the Dreamtime myths of Aboriginal Australians, and the nationalist myths of modern states. Such myths give Sapiens the unprecedented ability to cooperate flexibly in large numbers" - Sapiens, Yuval Noah Harari
My work is an exploration of metaphor pertaining to process, material, structure, and information within the frame of relationships. I use different methodologies depending on the situation and level of clarity necessary to explain or define these parameters. My work is based on the relationships we have with each other and how that affects the environment. Each project involves a wide range of techniques and ideas, which continue to change as my practice evolves.
These modules are based on the tragedy of our collective imaginations and its biological effects. Epigenetic Methylation is the process where trauma and environmental factors disrupt your internal programming by turning some of your genes' abilities on and or off. This reprogramming of your body's functions can cause complications in your ability to live. These relationships manifest internally and externally in various degrees and are dependent on collective imaginary systems.
These works are made from many smaller weavings to reference the idea of cell structures and life forms abstracted from current living conditions. Weaving in general relies on a community of strands and their ability to function productively. When one strand is damaged, the whole body starts to unravel. Paint is used to create a false narrative and evolution or de-evolution in its nature.
